Question: Where are South Gateway Student Apartments located?
Answer: The apartments are located adjacent to the Mammoth Campus of Cerro Coso Community College referred to as the Eastern Sierra College Center (ESCC) – Mammoth Campus. The Mammoth Campus is in the ski resort town of Mammoth Lakes, CA. Mammoth Lakes is located approximately four hours north of Los Angeles, six hours north of San Diego and three hours south of Reno, NV. The apartments are located about a 10 minute walk from major shops, amenities and bus line.
Question:When should I apply for student housing and how do I apply?
Answer: The best time to apply for student housing in South Gateway Student Apartments is as soon you think you want to attend ESCC – Mammoth Campus. Fill out the initial application located onlineand this will start the process for your application to live in the housing. The initial application does not show definite commitment from either party, but will show interest. When the initial application has been received, then the final application with deposit request will be sent to you. Return the final application with deposit as soon as you know you would like to live in the apartments; this is when your room will officially be reserved.
Question:Do I have to be admitted to Cerro Coso to apply for housing?
Answer: No, you do not have to be admitted to Cerro Coso to submit your initial online application; however, before you send in the official application with the non-refundable deposit you should have a clear idea whether you are going to be attending Cerro Coso, as you will not be refunded your deposit. Question:Is there an application fee?
Answer: No, there is no fee for the initial online application. Once the final application is sent to you and you return it, there will be a $850 reservation deposit required to reserve your spot. This is the only fee associated with application. $350 of it goes to the security deposit and $500 goes as a hold for the cancellation fee. If the student completes the terms of the license agreement, the $500 will be applied to last month's rent.
Question: Do I have to be a full time student to live in South Gateway Student Apartments?
Answer: South Gateway Student Apartments are open to all full time and part time students at Cerro Coso. Full time students have housing preference.
Question:When will I know if I have housing?
Answer: Once you send in your final application and reservation deposit you will either receive a letter or e-mail confirming your spot in the apartments. Please call 760.934.3781 if you have not heard back within two weeks. Expect to hear back within two weeks.
Question: Can I cancel my lease after I have given the deposit?
Answer: Your final application will be considered the start of your lease at South Gateway Student Apartments. Depending on how close to the start of your lease period you cancel, there will be a fee associated with cancellation.
Question:What kinds of rooms are available in South Gateway Student Apartments?
Answer: There are single occupancy studio and double occupancy one bedroom units available. All rooms have a kitchenette, furniture, desk, flat screen TV, wardrobe and locking ski/board locker. The one bedroom units offer a separate living room space.
Question:When do I get to move in?
Answer: You can move in two days before the start of class in fall semester. Your lease goes through the winter holiday break, so you are welcome to stay in the apartments through the whole holiday break and enjoy winter life in Mammoth. If you did not sign a lease for the summer period, you will be expected to move out within two days of the end of the spring semester.
Question:How long is the lease period?
Answer: The standard lease period is nine months (school year), late-August to late May. Occupancy during winter break is included in this lease period. You have the option to extend your lease through the summer. Arrangements to stay through the summer should be discussed with the Mammoth Lakes Foundation (MLF) Community Manager as soon as you decide to stay. Other lease term arrangements can be made, and should be discussed with the Mammoth Lakes Foundation Community Manager.

Question:Who do I give my housing payment to?
Answer: Payments should be given to Mammoth Lakes Foundation Community Manager in the form of check, credit card or money order. Please view the apartments overview page for all payment deadlines.
Question:Can I use my financial aid to pay for my rent?
Answer:Yes. Contact Cerro Coso Community College financial aid to find out deadline details in order to get checks in time for rental payment deadlines. If your financial aid will arrive after rental payment deadline make sure to discuss with Mammoth Lakes Foundation Community Manager. You will be asked to show proof of aid awarded, to arrange other payment details.
Question: How many rent payments am I supposed to give?
Answer: Please call the housing office at 760.934.5215 for payment details.
Question: Does my rent include utilities?
Answer: Your rent payment includes all needed utilities such as electricity, heat, cable, water and internet. Local phone service will not be provided in individual rooms. There will be a community phone in common area for local phone calls. If a student would like to purchase phone service, the rooms are equipped for installation of individual phone service.
Question: May I request to live with a specific person?
<Answer: Yes, you may request to live with a specific person of the same gender. Get your request in as soon as possible to increase our ability to make it happen.
Question: Will a roommate be selected for me if I don’t request to live with someone?
Answer: A roommate of the same gender will be selected for you, unless you are living in a studio.
Question: Who cleans the apartments?
Answer: South Gateway does not offer a cleaning service. You will be responsible for cleaning your own apartment. If you plan to leave for an extended period, such as winter or spring break, you will need to make sure your apartment is clean before you leave. During school break inspections may be performed to ensure everything is clean and working.
Question: Can I have overnight guests?
Answer: Yes, as long as you check with your roommate. Guests are permitted to stay up to three days at a time unless otherwise discussed with the Community Manager. Guests can be of opposite gender.
Question:Can I have a pet?
Answer: There are no pets allowed in South Gateway Student Apartments.
Question: Is alcohol and smoking allowed in the student apartments?
Answer: If you are 21 or older alcohol is allowed in your own apartment. Due to varying age of students, alcohol is not allowed in common areas such as the recreation room, hallways, study lounge or fitness room. Ideally, students over 21 years old will not be paired with students under 21 years old. Smoking is not allowed inside of South Gateway Student Apartments. Smoking is permitted outside in designated areas.
Question:Do I need a parking permit?
Answer: Not at this time. If there is a problem with not enough parking spots this may change, and you will be given plenty of notice.
Question: Are the apartments furnished?
Answer: Yes. Please look at the what to bring page under the FAQ tab to find out what to bring in addition to the provided furniture.
Question: Are the apartments ADA accessible?
Answer: Yes, there are a few units available for different special needs. Please contact Mammoth Lakes Foundation 760.934.3781 to find out more.
Question: Am I responsible for damages to my apartment?
Answer: When you move into your apartment, you and your roommate (if you have one) are responsible for completing an Apartment Condition Report (ACR). The ACR will provide a detailed report describing the condition of your apartment when you move in, including cleanliness, damage and furniture. Within a week’s time, you and your roommate will sign the ACR and return it to the MLF Community Manager.
Upon your departure the original ACR will be compared to the current condition of your apartment. If there are damages, including missing furniture or lack of cleanliness, a charge will be assessed. The charges will be billed to the responsible party if that information is available. In the event we can’t determine who is responsible, then all residents of the apartment will be billed. A detailed list of damages and charges can be obtained from the MLF Community Manager.
